Course Overview

The ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Business is a 60 credit qualification and is the equivalent level to an A-Level or Access to HE qualification. It has been designed for learners who wish to progress to a business or management degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required.

Learners who complete this qualification can progress to study a variety of Bachelor’s Degrees at a university such as our partner universities including The University of Northampton and The University of Bedfordshire.

What could this qualification lead to?

The qualification is primarily intended to support your progression to higher education. The Diploma will provide you with a firm grounding in terms of skills, knowledge and understanding relating to business, alongside the opportunity to develop the academic and research skills you will need on a BA degree course in business. The business-related knowledge, skills and understanding that the Diploma will have helped you develop will also prepare you to progress to a Level 4 business qualification such as the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Business.

Entry Requirements:

This qualification is designed for learners who are typically aged 16 and above.

For learners who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of following:

  • 5 or more GCSEs at grades C and above
  • Other related level 2 subjects
  • Other equivalent international qualifications

Learners must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments.



On successful completion of a Level 3 Diploma in Business there are a number of progression opportunities. Learners may progress to:

  • A level 4 ATHE qualification such as the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Management
  • A degree programme
